1914-15 Star
A uniface star of four points, the upper covered by a crown, with two crossed swords entwined by a short scroll. Inscription: '1914-15.' An oak garland superimposed upon the whole. Inscription: 'G' with a 'V' within it. Inscription Reverse: 'GNR. V.H. PRICE.R.N.' Fitted with a ring. Ribbon missing.
Lieutenant-Commander Victor Hamilton Arthur Price (1886-1972) was born in Ludlow to a family of musicians. He entered the ranks of the Royal Navy on 2 April 1904 for 12 years. Rated Petty Officer from 1904, he served in the minelayer 'Apollo' during 1914 and in HMS 'Russell' in the later part of that same year when she was in the 3rd battle squadron, Grand Fleet under the overall command of Jellicoe. He was promoted Lieutenant on 15 February 1916. In 'Antrim' he was involved in escorting convoys to North America during 1917 and in 'Phoebe' when she escorted HMS 'Vindictive' during the Zeebrugge Raid. He retired in 1922 with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander shortly after marrying Annie Mann at Isleworth in 1921. He was issued with a masters certificate on 16 December 1922, but in 1939 was working as a market garden manager for the Mann family. He died in Worthing.
