Jug

Tall creamware jug, transfer-printed in black with a dandy-rigged pilot boat, under sail, wearing a red and white flag 'No 2' and a large '2' on all the sails. It is hand coloured with a yellow hull and mast, and it sails on a green sea. The boat is within a scrolled and flowered cartouche with maritime symbols, and the inscription: 'SAFETY . DEPENDS ON . CONDUCT'. On the other side, a woman is waving her scarf to four departing ships. Inscribed: 'SUSAN'S FAREWELL/Adieu, she cry'd and wav'd her Lily hand'. There are hand painted initials and a date below the lip: 'J O 1802' within a circular border of ribbons and garlands.
