Creamware jug, transfer-printed in black. On one side a scene of two men ropemaking with the sea and shipping in the background, inscribed below: 'Behold our support'. The ropemakers are walking backwards with bundles of hemp around their waists. Inset, a shield with the ropemakers arms - three coils of rope and a chevron, with a coil as a crest and a foul anchor propped behind. On the other side is a female figure in classical dress, pointing out to sea and with an anchor behind her, inscribed below 'HOPE'.
