Symbolic female figure with an anchor, representing 'Hope'
In the form of a vertical pointed oval, this is a gold-framed brooch with a fastening pin on the reverse. It shows a symbolic classical female figure on a rocky shore, facing right with the left arm raised, leaning on and supporting a large anchor, and with a ship on the distant right horizon. This is a standard emblem for 'Hope'. The design is primarily in brown and black watercolour on a mineral background. This item is contained within a red leather case, but not one originally belonging to it.
