Unidentified man

Oval miniature of an unidentified man in watercolour, probably on ivory and with a little bodycolour. It is contained in an oval gilt metal surround, set into a black rectangular wooden backboard, with a velvet backing, integral stand, and a suspension mount with an acorn motif above. The sitter is half turned and looking to his right. He appears to be a man in his mid-30s with hazel/ grey eyes short and slightly receding dark hair and long sideburns. The inner corner of his left eye seems slightly red, but this may be a result of damage or age in the pigment. He wears a blue civilian coat with four buttons visible, over a white waistcoast, shirt and cravat, with the cravat tied over the protruding wings of the collar, all in a fairly compact style.
