Binoculars
These Galilean binoculars have a leather-covered body and sliding sun shades for the objective lenses. The eyepiece tubes are focused with a central wheel, but there is no separate eyepiece adjustment.
The binoculars are contained in a lined, leather case with a carrying strap. The maker's name appears on each eyepiece, and a long pair of inscriptions on the sun shades reveals that the binoculars were presented to I.P. Hanke, Chief Pilot of the North German Navy, by the Lords of the Admiralty on 17 June 1869 at the opening of the port of Wilhelmshafen.
