Gunter's scales

A Gunter scale was a straight rule on which were engraved mathematical scales used for logarithms and trigonometry. It was devised by the mathematician, Edward Gunter, in about 1607.

Gunter scales were used with dividers by navigators for making the calculations necessary to determine their position and plot it on a chart.
