Face engraved for laying off courses from the meridians or parallels of latitude. The lower edge is graduated to 24" by tenths. Reverse is Gunter's scale, graduated SR1-7,TR 1-4,NUM 1-12,2-10,SIN 0-90, VS165-10,TAN o-4,MER 0-90,EP60-10, 100-0. The face is inscribed "Bate LONDON" "T.O.A. 1837". The engraved initials TDA are those of Sit Thomas Dyke Acland 1787 1871 who was some time ownerof the schooner "Lady of St. Kilda".
