Floating compass

Pocket compass in silver case with floating card. Brass pivot at bottom of outer case to act as gimbal and so keep the compass always vertical. The outer case, which is made of boxwood, has a false bottom which, when reversed, locks the card. The East point is decorated.

Graduated quadrantally and in points.
