Rose of the Winds
Compass card.
A "Rose of the Winds". Illuminated in colour on gold vellum. This is the earliest form of the mariner's compass card. In the centre is the western hemisphere and radiating from it are 32 bulbous points representing the winds, which terminate into compartments or "points" of the compass, in which the names of the winds are given in three languages: Italian, Latin and Dutch.
