Bowl: Dia of outer case: 2.6" (6.7 cm). Dia of compass bowl: 1.9" (4.8 cm). Outer case of boxwood with a screw on wooden lid. Fitted with a brass pivot point mounted at centre of base, on which compass bowl rests, and a boxwood ring which when reversed operates pins in base of compass bowl locking the card. Compass bowl of silver, glazed, fitted with a conical base which engages on pivot in outer case, and a card locking mechanism operated by two pins at base.

Card: Dia. 1.7" (4.3 cm) White card with black markings. Graduated to 32 points and quadrantally in degrees, with a decorated East point.

Needle: Unsighted.
Pivot: Unsighted.
