Liquid compass and binnacle

The oil lamp has been marked NAV0274.1 and can be found via the Whole/Part toggle.
A liquid compass and binnacle. The compass has a 6.5" card graduated in 1/4 points with a fleur -de-lys at the N end and a decorated E point. The outer gimbal pivots are athwartships and rest in an intermediate ring hung from the binnacle by four rubber strips about 1 3/4" wide and 4" long. This conforms with Patent No 8334 of 1886. The octagonal wooden binnacle is 24" high and has a brass hood. In the centre of the hood is an oil lamp having an annular oil reservoir with a filling hole in the bottom. In the binnacle, below the lamp, is a piece of clear glass. The binnacle has four corrector magnets in external brass tubes. As these were found under the stage of Neptune's Hall their former history is unknown.
