Dry card compass

Bowl-Brass with large lead balancing weight attached to base. Brass verge ring with glass. Interior of bowl coated with chalky white substance, and lubber line marked in pencil. Fitted with brass gimbal ring. Dia. 9.25" (23.5cm).
Card-Mica covered paper, graduated to half points in black on white with decorative North point. Jewelled pivot cap fitted to centre of card. Underside of card pasted over with part page of Bay of Biscay Pilot and carries several blobs of sealing wax for balancing.
Needle-Flar bar type, length 7" (17.8cm) with expanded centre to accommodate jewelled pivot cap.
Pivot-Brass pin, secured at centre of base of bowl, engages in pivot cap in needle.
Fitted with two brass gimbal mounting pins. Wooden box with sliding lid.
