Wigzell's patent atmospheric sea sounding instrument

Ten sounding tubes in cylindrical metal container. In a wooden box with two boxwood scales. Instrument on a length of stray line with metal eyes.

Wooden box with instruction sheets pasted to the inside of lid (part ripped off and lying in box). The box has 'F.B.176' painted on the lid and side, and an enamel label on the lid with 'WIGZELL'S / PATENT / (ATMOSPHERIC TYPE) / SEA-SOUNDING / INSTRUMENT'. The box contains:
- two wooden fathom scales, one inscribed:' FATHOMS' and 'WIGZELL'S PATENT', 477mm long; the other inscribed 'Kelvin Bottonley & Baird Ltd. Glasgow 1907'.
- sounding tube, brass with rope; a metal label on the rope indicates which end is the top; tube is 636 mm long, and is stamped 'WIZGELL'S PATENT' (stamped).
