Deep saucer, a good later copy of examples in Nelson's oak leaf service. It is painted in full colour and gilt. In the centre, the coat of arms of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) within the motto 'TRIA JUNCTA IN UNO' (three joined in one), with supporters, below his personal motto on a ribbon 'PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT' (let he who earned it bear the palm). Above, the chelengk and 'SAN JOSEF' crests, the latter inscribed with his motto 'FAITH AND WORKS' and also a Duke's and Viscount's coronet; below, two Naval gold medals and the Order of St Ferdinand. The border is painted with oak leaves and acorns and the saucer has a gilt rim.
