Nansen-Petterson Type
Water collecting bottle. Chromed brass cylinder with chromed brass fitting. Fitted with a thermometer, graduared to + 20 C.
In fitted green painted wooden box 36.75" x 9.25" x 7.25" (93.4 x 23.5 x 18.4 cm), containing 2 Chromed brass extension tubes 10" (25.4 cm) long; 1 Chromed brass spanner 5.0" (12.75 cm) long.
This a British made copy of a Nansen-Petterson Water Bottle. See NAV1005. Records show that these devices were used extensively by Lowestoft Fisheries Research Laboratory on numerous cruises during the late 1920s investigating fisheries hydrography. This instrument has markings that show that it was used at the Lowestoft Fisheries Research Laboratory.
