Type 975 marine radar
Marine radar, Type 975
A close range high definition surface warning radar used principally for pilotage and navigation. Fitted in small warships such as frigates, Coastal minesweepers, Inshore minesweepers & Royal Fleet Auxiliaries.
The Type 975 was an X-band surface search and seaward defence radar, with 50 kW peak power, using a 6ft or 10 ft slotted waveguide antenna. Minimum detection range is less than 35 yards, and beamwidth is about 1º. The transmitter-receiver is contained in a case of mild steel which is designed for bulkhead mounting. The display unit is a 12 in CRT with preset electrostatic focusing. All operating controls are mounted on the front panel of the display. The main IF signal amplifier is also contained in the display.
1- Display Unit. (Indicator Azimuth Range). Housed in grey-painted steel cabinet. Employs 12" C.R.T to give a display having seven ranges up to 48 nautical miles. Fitted with Radar Data Reflection Plotter & C.R.T hood.
2- Transmitter/Receiver Unit. Contained in grey-painted steel cabinet and containig the Modulator, the Magnetron, the local Oscilatot, and the Head Amplifier.
3- Control Indicator Unit. The Main interconnecting unit between all other units. Enables a selection to be made where multiple displays are fitted.
4- Power Unit. Contained in grey-painted metalcase and fitted adjacent to display unit. It provides the D.C. H.T supplies fot units 1,2 and 3. (The power unit is attached to the display unit.)
