Small Craft Precision Sextant

The extant consists of circular grey-lacquered alloy plates. The lid contains a paper table for correcting the observed altitude of the Sun’s lower limb. The index arm is moved by a milled knob at the pivot point on the upper plate. The instrument has two green index shades, which are moved by levers and no horizon shades. Index- and horizon-glass adjustment is made by square-headed screws with a milled key shipped in the upper plate.

Attached to the sextant is a single lens magnifier on a 57mm swivelling arm connected at the index arm’s pivot. The sight vane is screwed into the frame with one pinhole and an alternative green shaded sight shipped in the side of the frame. Accompanying the instrument is a spare paper table for the Sun’s semi-diameter, a paper table for natural tangents to the power of 100, a brush, and an instruction manual ‘Small Craft Precision Sextant’.

The instrument has an aluminium scale mesuring from -5° to 150° by 30 arcminutes, measuring to 144°. The sextant has an aluminium vernier measuring to 1 arcminute, with zero at the right.

The sextant is contained in a fitted leather carrying case with a sling strap.
