Cup

Teacup, part of a tea service reputedly belonging to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) although this is unlikely. Pieces of this service were left by Hilaire, Countess Nelson to her nephew. The cup is shallow and fluted with a gilded moulded handle and decorative gold rim. It is painted with small sprigs of coloured flowers and leaves. Near the rim there are three gold lines interwoven with a continuous blue riband. A small flower sprig is painted inside. The maker's mark is painted on the base. There are four similar cups in the museum's collections AAA4633-AAA4636.
