Graduations-Circle graduated quadrantally in degrees. Vernier scale at one end of alidade 0-30, 30-60.
Sights-Two detachable sight vanes 5.5" (14cm) long mounted on alidade, one sight with a vertical slit with a rectangular aperture above , the other with a rectangular aperture with a vertical slit above.
Compass- Dia. 5.5" (14cm) mounted at centre of instrument. Fitted with a narrow tapered needle 4.5" (11.4cm) long, with a brass pivot cap at centre. Graduated to 8 points, quadrantally in degrees and anti-clockwise to 360 degs. Two spirit levels are fitted in base of compass bowl, one mounted at N point in E-W direction, the other at E point in N-S direction.
A ball and socket joint for mounting the instrument on a tripod is contained in the wooden box. Box 10.25 x 10.25 x 3.5" (26 x 26 x 8.9cm)
