Plate

Deep plate or dish, part of a tea service reputedly belonging to Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) although this is unlikely. Pieces of this service were left by Hilaire, Countess Nelson to her nephew. It has a fluted edge and a decorative gold rim and is painted with sprigs of coloured flowers and leaves. Around the edge are three gold lines interwoven with a continuous blue riband. The maker's mark is painted on the base.
