U Frame Transit

Base-Dia. 5.75" (14.6cm) graduated to 360 degs by 30' with two vernier scales 0-30 each with a magnifier on a swinging arm. Two spirit levels, one 2.9" long, the other 1.7" long are mounted on base. Base supported on a vertical pillar which carries a slow-motion screw and clamp for turning base in azimuth and a second screw and clamp for turning the whole instrument in azimuth about the vertical support. A tripod mounting socket with three levelling screws is fitted.
Vertical circle-Diameter 4.5" (11.4cm) mounted above base on a "U" frame 6" (15.2cm) high. Graduated quadrantally in degrees by 30' with two vernier scales 30-0-30 by 20' each with a magnifier on a swinging arm. A spirit level is mounted on a frame close to the " circle" and fitted with a slow-motion screw adjustment.
Telescope-Length 9.75" (24.8cm) inverted. O.G. dia 1.5" (3.8 cm) with lens cap. Milled knob at centre for internal focus. A slow-motion screw and clamp operate on horizontal axis of telescope and "U" frame (opposite to "circle"..
In fitted wooden box 16 x 7 x 7.5" (40.7 x 19 x 17.8cm) containing 1eyepiece, one right angle eyepiece with sliding dark shade, one eyepiece cap, one extension tube, one O.G. lens cap, one Tommy bar, one spanner, one plumb bob and line, one oil bottle, one brush, and one Trough compass.
