Pocket telescope
This non-achromatic telescope has a black sharkskin barrel. The three vellum draw tubes are decorated with gold-tooled motifs and have stop lines drawn onto them to indicate the optimum working length of the telescope. The objective lens cap is also made of sharkskin, but the eyepiece cap is missing. The lenses are set in turned ebony mounts.
An inscription on the smallest draw tube, 'VES / DY / A. LOBSERVATOIRE.', refers either to a maker or an owner of the telescope.
