Spyglass telescope

This Galilean telescope has a dyed rayskin barrel and a single draw tube made of red leather and is decorated with gold-tooled motifs of hanging garlands. The other mounts are made of black ivory. The original case, which is covered in sharkskin, also survives. The maker's name is inscribed on the draw tube, while the inside of the case has the name 'Alexr Dawson - Dublin' written in ink.

Small spy glass telescopes like this were made as personal accessories to fit in the pocket.
