Lookout telescope
This navigational telescope has a mahogany barrel, a single brass draw tube and brass fittings. The eyepiece has a sliding cover but the cap for the objective lens appears to be missing.
The maker's name is inscribed on the draw tube - 'JOSH MAZZUCHI' - probably referring to a Joseph Mazzuchi. Nothing more is known about this maker. The telescope does not have an achromatic lens, however, suggesting that it could even date from before 1770.
