Walking stick telescope
Walking stick telescopes like this were made as gentlemen's fashion accessories rather than as serious observing instruments. An achromatic telescope is incorporated into the top. Its barrel is covered with sharkskin and there are two brass draw tubes.
There is a small compass housed in the knob, which also acts as the objective lens cap. The letters used to mark the cardinal points (N, E, S, O) suggest that the stick was made in France. The compass needle is now missing.
