Walking stick telescope
Walking stick telescopes like this were made as gentlemen's fashion accessories rather than as serious observing instruments. This example has a non-achromatic telescope with a single brass draw tube fitted into it. The brass fittings include a screw-on objective lens cap, which also acts as the top of the stick. At either end of the telescope tube is fine Turk's head ropework.
The walking stick is made of metal but has been painted to resemble lacquered cane, as has the barrel of the telescope.
