Pocket telescope
This pocket telescope has three brass draw tubes. The barrel is also made of brass but is covered in leather. The two caps are also leather. The other fittings are brass and include a sliding sunshade and a pivoted eyepiece cover.
The maker's name is inscribed on the smallest draw tube, although it is written as 'Necretti & Zambra' rather than 'Negretti and Zambra'. This is possibly an error on the part of the engraver, or might have been an attempt to pass off the instrument as being made by a well-known company.
The number 'VI' is also roughly inscribed in a number of places invisible from the outside (such as on the underside of the eyepiece). These marks were made during the manufacture of the instrument to ensure that the right parts stayed together.
