Officer of the Watch telescope
This achromatic navigational telescope has a tapering leather-covered barrel and silvered-brass fittings, including a single draw tube, a sliding sunshade and a sliding eyepiece cover. The objective lens cap is missing and the leather covering is now badly damaged.
The maker’s name appears on the draw tube as ‘Ross, / London’, while an inscription on the collar of the barrel records that the telescope was owned by ‘Commander J.A. Fisher, R.N’. Fisher was promoted to Commander in 1865 and to Captain in 1874.
