Naval telescope
This achromatic telescope has a single draw tube made of brass and a tapering barrel with a leather covering. There is a sliding sunshade for the objective lens and a pivoted eyepiece cover. The telescope was made by the Sunderland firm of Hutchinson & Jackson, whose name is inscribed on the draw tube. The telescope is typical of those used on board ship in the 19th century for general observations.
