Night telescope
The barrel is covered in leather and the single draw tube and the other fittings are made of silvered brass. There is a sliding sunshade and a pivoted eyepiece lens cover. An inscription on the draw tube indicates the maker as well as the fact that it is an achromatic night telescope. It has a large objective lens to allow as much light as possible to enter the telescope in poor seeing conditions.
A second inscription on the draw tube indicates the previous ownership: 'Henry Boys, Esqre R.N. H.M.S. Vanguard. 1848 To Wm H. Boys. Esqre R.N. H.M.S. Camperdown 1893'.
