Pocket telescope
This achromatic telescope has a mahogany and brass barrel and three brass draw tubes. The brass fittings include an objective lens cap, a sliding eyepiece cover and an extending sunshade.
The maker's name is inscribed on the smallest draw tube as ‘Adie & Son / EDINBURGH’. The firm of Adie & Son are known to have been working in Edinburgh in the period 1835-80.
The numerals 'IIII' or 'IV' are roughly inscribed on a number of the parts. These were presumably scratched on during the manufacturing process to allow the different parts of the telescope to be matched up.
