Jug
Tall creamware jug, transfer-printed in black with on oval medallion portrait of Rear-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) with a naval crown above. It is supported by cherubs holding trumpets and laurel wreaths, with a plan of the Battle of the Nile, 1798, below. Inscribed above the portrait: 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON' below 'BATTLE OF THE NILE'. Below the lip within a cartouche with a crocodile 'ADMIRAL Lord NELSON AND THE GLORIOUS FIRST OF AUGUST 1798'. On the other side of the jug is a print of a coat of arms, similar to that of Nelson, with his supporters, motto 'PALMAM QUI MERUIT FERAT' and chief in the shield. However, the shield has three fleur-de-lis and a chevron instead of a palm tree, and the crest is a naval crown with a plume of three feathers.
