Jug

Creamware jug commemorating the Battle of Trafalgar, 1805. It is transfer-printed in red with a stern view of two warships in action, inscribed above 'Action between the VICTORY of 80 Guns & the Santissima Trinidada of 140 Guns.' The number of guns is incorrect. On a ribbon below is the inscription 'SUCCESS TO THE NAVY'. On the other side of the jug is printed, in red, a verse within a surround of foliage: 'A Friend that is Social/Good Natur'd and Free/To a Pot of my Liquor/Right welcome shall be./But he that is Proud/Or ill Natur'd may Pass/By my Door to an Ale-house/And Pay for his Glass.'
