Mug
A creamware mug, transfer-printed and hand-coloured with a portrait of an officer intended to represent Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Ships in action are shown in the background, and inscribed on a ribbon supported by twigs below: 'SUCCESS TO ADML. NELSON'. An identical portrait of Admiral Sir George Brydges Rodney (1719-1792) is shown on an enamel plaque (see also pottery mug AAA4370). The base of the mug is moulded and flared, and the rim is painted with a brown line. A similar image is captioned 'Right Honble LORD HOWE' see PAD0120.
