Jug
Earthenware jug, transfer-printed with hand-painted brown rim and handle decoration. Under the lip in purple, a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) inscribed 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON' based on the engraving by J. Chapman, published in December 1798 (see PAD3884).
On one side of the jug, printed in black, is a battle plan of Trafalgar inscribed 'BATTLE OFF TREFALGAR [sic] (With Refferences) Gained by the British Fleet under Adml Lrd Nelson over the Combined Fleet of France and Spain on the 21 Octr 1805 in which action the intrepid Nelson fell covered with Glory and renown. Born Septr 29 1758 Died Octr 21 1805 Aged 48 Years'.
