Jug
Earthenware jug, transfer-printed in black on one side with a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), inscribed above 'England Expects every Man to do his Duty', and below 'ADMIRAL LORD NELSON/Born Septr 29 1758-Died Octr 21 1805/Aged 47' (inscription partly illegible). The image of Nelson is based on the engraving by J. Chapman, published in December 1798 (see PAD3884). On the other side is a small circular scene of a fishing boat at sea off a fort. The neck and handle are decorated with hand-painted black lines, and a dot pattern runs around the neck.
