Earthenware jug with a moulded handle, transfer-printed in black. Under the lip, a circular portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) after Daniel Orme, with ships in the background and trophies below, inscribed 'ADMIRAL NELSON', 'ENGLAND EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY', 'VICTORY.' On one side, a woman in classical dress with two young children, one playing with a lamb. 'Behold the Widow casting herself and Orphans on benevolent Britons.' On the other side, a chubby child dressed as a sailor flourishes a hat with 'NELSON' on the band.
