Mug

Earthenware mug, transfer-printed in blue, with a moulded fluted base. On one side, a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) inscribed above 'NELSON' around the portrait 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY', below 'Shew me my Country's Foes, the Hero cry'd,/He saw-He fought-He conquer'd-and he di'd.' On the other side, a naval battle, 'VICTORY' inscribed above. Under the lip, naval trophies with an inscription below: 'HORATIO LORD VISCOUNT/NELSON/VICE ADMIRAL OF THE WHITE/ Knight of the Order of the Bath/Duke of Bronte in Sicily/Grand Cross of the Order of Ferdi/nand and of Merit and Knight of the imperial Order of the/Crescent', 'Copenhagen', 'Nile', 'Trafalgar'. The neck border is also decorated with scrolling foliage and trophies of arms. There is a laurel border inside. The handle is decorated with transfers and the rim is painted with a brown line.
