Shell
Pearl oyster shell (pinctada maxima) painted in oils with a view of a warship off a mountainous coast within a lifebelt inscribed 'H.M.S. JUNO'.
The lifebelt is surmounted by a naval crown and surrounded by the flags of Italy, Japan and Serbia. It is inscribed on a ribbon below: ‘1917 PERSIAN GULF – EAST INDIES 1918’. The flags on this and the related shell ZBA4547 represent the allies during World War I. There is a hole in the shell for suspension.
The shells belonged to Henry Wright, Able Seaman aboard 'Juno' and, according to his family, were painted by him.
