Jug
Earthenware jug, transfer-printed in blue with fluted moulding at the neck and base and painted ochre rim. On one side a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) inscribed above 'NELSON', around the portrait 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY' below 'Shew me my Country's Foes, the Hero cry'd,/he saw-He fought-He conquer'd-And he di'd.' On the other side is a naval action 'VICTORY' above. There is an inscription opposite the handle, below a naval trophy: 'HORATIO LORD VISCOUNT/NELSON/VICE-ADMIRAL OF THE WHITE./Knight of the Order of the Bath/Duke of Bronte in Sicily/Grand Cross of the Order of Ferdi/nand and of Merit and Knight of the imperial Order of/the Crescent', 'Copenhagen', 'Nile', 'Trafalgar'. The transfers are on a background of scrolling foliage, there is a border of foliage and trophies of arms running around the outside of the neck, with another border of laurel around the interior. The handle is decorated with transfers.
