Construction and later voyage of the Wimbledon (1937) up the Thames, 1938 and 19345-9.
A cloth-coverd loose leaf album containing 74 photographic prints relating to the construction in 1937 and the maiden voyage in 1938 (and later voyages) for Wimbledon (1937), a Wandsworth & District Gas Company Collier. Photographs made by Star Photos, Commercial Photographers, Perth; and unknown.
The main themes are:
1) General views of the construction of the ship at the Burntisland Shipbuilding Company Ltd Yard, Scotland
2) The launch of the ship in December 1937
3) Views of the interior including the Bridge, Wheel House, Saloon, and Galley
4) The maiden voyage up the Thames on 2 January 1938, showing her passing under a number of the bridges along the way with her funnel hinged down.
5) Views of her post war between 1945 and 1949, before the company changed name.
6) Views of her in her wartime colours, 1945-6.
