Jug
Earthenware jug, transfer-printed in blue. On one side a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) inscribed above 'NELSON', around the portrait 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY' below 'Shew me my Country's Foes, the Hero cry'd,/He saw-He fought (sic)-He conquer'd-and he di'd.' On the other side, a naval battle; 'VICTORY' inscribed above. There is an inscription opposite the handle, with a naval trophy above 'HORATIO LORD VISCOUNT/NELSON/VICE ADMIRAL OF THE WHITE/Knight of the Order of the Bath/Duke of Bronte in Sicily/Grand Cross of the Order of Ferdi/nand and of Merit and Knight of/the imperial Order of the/Crescent', 'Copenhagen', 'Nile', 'Trafalgar'. A floral border with trophies of arms runs around the neck and there is another border of laurel on the inside and on the handle. The neck and the base of the jug are moulded with a fluted pattern.
