Bowl
Earthenware bowl, transfer-printed in blue. In the centre a portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) inscribed above 'NELSON', around the portrait 'ENGLAND EXPECTS EVERY MAN TO DO HIS DUTY' below 'Shew me my Country's Foes, the Hero cry'd,/He saw-He faught [sic]-He conquer'd-and he di'd.' On the outside two prints of a naval battle 'VICTORY' above, two repeats of the portrait of Nelson and two inscriptions, with naval trophies above 'HORATIO LORD VISCOUNT/NELSON/VICE ADMIRAL OF THE WHITE/Knight of the Order of the Bath/Duke of Bronte in Sicily/Grand Cross of the Order of Ferdi/nand and of Merit and Knight of/the imperial Order of the/Crescent', 'Copenhagen', 'Nile', 'Trafalgar'.The transfers have been shaped to fit the bowl. Around the rim is a border of foliage and trophies of arms, a laurel band runs around the inside.
