unidentified merchant vessel; Aigle (1801)
Scale 1:48. A plan showing the body, sheer lines with outboard detail and longitudinal half-breadth of an unnamed three-masted, 128ft merchant ship pierced for guns and of about 655 tons burden.
Contemporary annotations in pencil on the plan read 'Draft copied from a Portsmouth [illegible] of 655 tons; December 1797. Ports should be carried and timber [?] aft to make the [illegible] forward cargoes.' In addition, there is a late 20th Century note suggesting that the vessel depicted is an East Indiaman. However, there is no supporting evidence for this on the plan.
On the reverse is an unfinished plan showing the sternboard, profile, body and longitudinal half-breadth of the Aigle (1801), a 36 gun Fifth Rate.
