Two packs of playing cards

A pair of packs of playing cards by the Worshipful Company of Makers of Playing Cards, held in a blue presentation case. The case is marked with a gold-coloured crest of the Company. The cards, accompanied by a 3-fold illustrated explanatory leaflet, commemorate the Time and Space project at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, 2006-07. The faces of the cards reproduce a pack of astronomical cards published in about 1828 by Charles Hodges. Two jokers have been added, featuring John Flamsteed and John Harrison. The backs were designed by Brad Baker and printed by Richard Edward Ltd in London. The ace card pictures James J .Madden, Master of the Company in 2006-07. Since 1882, the Company has issued a pack of cards annually to celebrate the election and installation of the new Master.
