Jug
Creamware jug, transfer-printed in black and hand-coloured, with an oval portrait of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805). Ensigns and trophies are placed behind the portrait which is flanked by a seaman to the left and Britannia on the right. Below is inscribed 'ADL LORD NELSON', 'Born Septr 26th 1758 Died Octr 21st 1805'. The engravers monogram 'LN' is included in the design. A four line verse is printed on the other side within rose sprays: 'The Loss of gold is great/The loss of time is more/But loosing CHRIST is such a loss,/As no man can restore.' A black line is painted around the rim and neck of the jug.
