Dish

Cheese dish in blue and white porcelain with a lid in the form of Nelson's column. In four pieces 1) An eight-sided stand with four paw feet, blue rope borders and fruiting vine decoration. 2) An eight-sided container with a moulded border of arches and shells at the top and leaves at the base. Blue reliefs of Britannia, and Cupid with Venus are applied to a white ground. 3) An eight-sided domed cover with a leaf border and swags of blue fabric in relief, surmounted by a column. 4) A finial modelled and coloured as a figure of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) with a sword and a hat. The name of the maker, the pottery and the date are incised on the bases of the container and stand.
