Jug
Brown, salt glazed stoneware toby jug, modelled as a half-length figure of Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), in Rear-Admiral's uniform and wearing a hat. The figure has the three stars of the Orders of the Bath, Crescent and St Ferdinand embroidered on his coat to which is pinned a Naval gold medal, and wears two medals around the neck, one inscribed 'NILE 1798'. Nelson's pigtail forms the handle of the jug and the inscription 'TRAFALGAR 1805/England expects every man to do his duty' is impressed across the base of the jug at waist level. The jug is similar to the Doulton types.
