Vase
Vase commemorating Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson (1758-1805) and the Trafalgar centenary 1905, in black jasper with white applied reliefs. There are acanthus leaves and oak leaves around the foot. A medallion portrait of Nelson after John De Vaere decorates the body in a beaded frame suspended by a ribbon. On the other side, there is a rostral column with Victory writing an inscription on a shield. Suspended from handles in the form of sphynxs' heads are a quiver, bow, torch and laurel wreath on one side and on the other a trumpet, lyre and rose wreath. There is a band of flowers and grasses around the base of the body, and above the portrait an oak wreath. On the neck are the dates '1805' and '1905' within laurel wreaths tied with ribbon. The vase stands on a circular, jasper plinth, the maker's name impressed on the base.
